How are loads secured with lashing straps?
Multi-turn fastening devices are equipped with various tensioners, end brackets, links, and hooks, which allows for the manufacture of lashing straps of various designs suitable for specific tasks:
1. Securing cargo on the floor. An option for securing cargo on the platform or body of a vehicle, preventing it from shifting and tipping over. Even if the risks seem small, experts recommend using floor lashing with a force of 400 kg per 4000 kg of cargo. This will prevent the cargo from sliding during vibrations. When securing, the angle between the textile strap and the cargo platform must be at least 30°. But it is better if it is greater.
2. Loop lashing. A method of securing cargo using lashing straps when the cargo is pressed against one side and needs to be prevented from shifting to the other side. For better cargo stability and to prevent tipping, it is better to use paired lashing. You can also use locks to prevent the cargo from shifting in the longitudinal direction.
3. Spring lashing is a reliable option for securing the corners of the structure being transported, which prevents the cargo from shifting in the longitudinal direction of the loading platform. For this purpose, ring straps are used to wrap around the load and secure it diagonally on both sides. It is necessary to ensure that the angle between the strap and the platform does not exceed 45°. Otherwise, the effectiveness of the fastening is significantly reduced.
How much force should be applied to tighten the lashing strap? This parameter depends on the weight of the load and the coefficient of friction between the transported object and the surface of the platform. The tension force is calculated using the formula Ftr = μ (mg), where μ is the coefficient of friction, which depends on the material of the load and the surface of the loading platform, (m) is the mass of the load, and g is the force of gravity = 9.81 m/s2.
Main types and designs of lashing straps
The design, width, and length of the lashing strap are determined by the selected method of securing the cargo and the availability of attachment points on the platform. A standard lashing strap consists of a long and a short part, as well as a ratchet for tensioning the strap. Hooks or links are installed at the ends of the long and short parts (at the customer's request). Ring-type lashing straps are equipped with buckles and clamp locks.
Car transport straps deserve special mention—a type of lashing strap designed exclusively for securing cars and motorcycles during long-distance transport on special cargo platforms. They are attached to the wheel using single-jaw swivel hooks or double-jaw hooks.
Regardless of the type, lashing straps are made of textile tape with a width of 25-100 mm, which corresponds to a breaking load of 750-10000 kg. The length of the strap can be any, standard ones are 5-meter straps.
